Tambourine with 4 bells

A classic tambourine sized and weighted for a child's first real percussion instrument. A rainbow-striped drumhead stretches across a smooth wooden frame, and four sets of metal jingles set into the rim ring out with every tap, shake, or brush of a hand across the surface. That range of ways to play it, striking the head like a drum, shaking it for a steady jingle, or sliding a thumb across the jingles for a quick roll, gives a child several different sounds to discover from one instrument, which keeps it interesting well beyond the first few taps. It's an easy instrument to play alongside singing or a favorite song, since there's no wrong way to keep a beat with it, and light enough that small hands can hold and shake it without tiring quickly. The rainbow finish and natural wood frame make it a cheerful addition to a first instrument collection. A dependable classic for ages 3 and up.
